The year 2025 brought concrete results and awards that confirmed the quality of our institution’s research and strategic steps. CXI TUL is thus moving towards a stronger position and a clearly defined direction for the next decade.
If 2024 was about financial stability, 2025 was also about outputs. And those that were noticed by the professional and public spheres.
2025: results that count
An important milestone was the international evaluation panel, within which CXI TUL moved from a B rating to an A. This shift is not a cosmetic change, but a clear confirmation that the institute has managed to convince foreign experts of the quality of research, strategic management and the real impact of its activities. In an environment where evaluations are rigorous and regardless of the local context, this is an exceptionally significant result.
Important awards
International recognition was also confirmed by the victory of the project, which was created at CXI TUL, by the expert jury authorized by the European Commission to award the LIFE Awards 2025 title in the Circular Economy and Quality of Life category. This is the first Czech project to receive this prestigious award in this category.
The award-winning LIFEPOPWAT project, focused on the treatment of wastewater flowing from old pesticide landfills, is being implemented at locations in the Czech Republic and Poland. The technology developed at CXI TUL here achieves almost 100% efficiency in removing toxic substances from contaminated water.

This success was followed by the German Economy Award for the project, which CXI TUL received together with partners from Germany and the Czech Republic in the Czech-German Cooperation category. The award is given by the German-Czech Chamber of Commerce and Industry to innovative companies and institutions that support a sustainable and technologically advanced economy and strengthen competitiveness.
Ceska hlava – Miroslav Černík
CXI also received a significant award at the national level. Professor Miroslav Černík received the highest Czech scientific award, the Czech Head – the Award of the Minister of the Environment of the Czech Republic. The jury recognized his more than thirty years of work in the field of contaminated water purification, remediation technologies and the application of nanomaterials in environmental protection. This award confirms that CXI is able to combine cutting-edge research with topics of fundamental social importance in the long term.

Social responsibility
Another dimension was brought by the inclusion of CXI TUL among the Giving Tuesday finalists in the corporate charity category. At a time when research institutions are expected to have broader social responsibility, this is an important signal that CXI sees its role beyond the framework of research results.
Visit of the President as a Symbol of Recognition
The symbolic climax of 2025 was the visit of the President of the Czech Republic, Petr Pavel, on December 10, 2025. However, it was not a formal stop. The President spent about an hour at CXI, during which he was actively interested in ongoing projects, asking questions and taking notes.
“It was clear that he was really interested,” said the director of CXI TUL Miroslav Černík. President Petr Pavel himself mentioned that he regretted the short duration of the visit, adding that he would return to his remarks in the evening, when he would try to understand individual topics in depth.
“We got to know what projects they are working on at the university, and I must say that it is very encouraging to see a workplace of such a level that cooperates with a number of similar workplaces in the world on projects that are truly world-class,” said the President. He mentioned, among other things, the areas of electron microscopy, materials research, applications of nanotechnology for water purification, use in healthcare, and the potential of 3D printing in engineering and defense technologies.

Towards CXI 2030
CXI TUL today stands on solid foundations that allow us to look beyond the immediate horizon. The CXI 2030 strategy builds on a stable background, growing international respect, and the ability to translate cutting-edge research into concrete solutions with real impact. The ambition for the coming years is not only to maintain the achieved level, but also to systematically develop it – in science, international cooperation, and social responsibility.
Finally, we would like to thank all CXI TUL employees. It is your expertise, commitment, and daily work that are worth the successes that the institute has achieved in recent years. We wish you a peaceful and joyful Christmas holiday in the coming period, and good health, plenty of energy, inspiration, and the desire to move CXI TUL forward in the new year.
